Oktoberfest in the Netherlands 2025

Prost and pretzels

Have you ever dreamt of raising a Maß glass, shouting “Prost!”, and biting in to a pretzel at Oktoberfest? While the heart of this iconic beer festival beats in Munich, you don’t need to go all the way to Germany to experience the togetherness. Here in the Netherlands we embrace the German spirit with genuine enthusiasm, bringing the fun for everyone. From big city parties to charming neighborhood gatherings. An Oktoberfest in the Netherlands is often just a stone’s throw away. In case you couldn’t make it to Munich this year, you can still feel the vibe even in Noordwijk!

Brief history

Everyone knows Oktoberfest is a German beer festival, but what are we actually celebrating? The history goes all the way back to 12th of October in 1810 to a celebration of the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities lasted for nearly a week and the success of the event led to the decision to repeat it annually.

While it started as a royal wedding celebration, Oktoberfest has grown into the world’s largest folk festival. Millions of visitors find their way to Munich to enjoy Bavarian culture every year. Although the name of the festival refers to October, nowadays it takes place from late September until the first Sunday of October.

Oktoberfest in the Netherlands, but why?

Oktoberfest is all about having fun together, singing, laughing, and sharing food and drinks at long tables. The feeling of being part of something like this isn’t just for people in Germany. As neighbors, the Dutch also want to join the celebration.

And let’s face it, not everyone can travel all the way to Germany. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. That’s why celebrating Oktoberfest in the Netherlands is a great option too. Germany and the Netherlands have a long history of sharing culture. Many Dutch people already know German music, food, and of course, beer!

And honestly, if there’s a reason to party, why not take it? Oktoberfest’s special music, food, and outfits make it feel like a break from everyday life. It’s a chance to relax, sing along, and enjoy a fun cultural experience.

Practical advices

  • Remember to book your tickets and accommodation early.
  • Always have cash with you, most beer tents prefer cash over card. Be prepared to avoid long ATM lines.
  • Dressing up is highly encouraged and adds to the fun!
  • Pace yourself and know your limits. Oktoberfest is a marathon, not a sprint. Pints are big and the beer is strong.
  • Stay hydrated! Drink water and make sure to eat!
  • Check if any age destrictions. Some festivals might have an age destriction, for example +25 only.
